Things to Know from Kilimanjaro Top of Africa
The ascent of Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) does not require advanced technical skills to reach the summit, but it does demand good physical condition and preparation to climb nearly 6,000 meters. Proper acclimatization is essential to avoid altitude sickness; the elevation gain should not be underestimated.
The climb can be done via 7 different routes, with 4 main ones, each with its own characteristics; let us guide you to find the route that best fits your goals and expectations.
Some routes offer lodges where you can stay every night, while others only have camping tents. Our local team will ensure you have the best experience and reach the highest point on Africa’s roof.
In brief, here are the differences among the routes:
- Deal for beginners – Marangu and Machame routes
- Best scenery – Lemosho and Machame routes
- Affordable price and beginner-friendly – Marangu route
- Medium difficulty – Machame and Lemosho routes
- Expert level – Umbwe route
The trekking can be done in 5 days (4 nights) plus 2 nights at the mountain base. We recommend a minimum of 6 days trekking for proper acclimatization and to enjoy the experience more comfortably. This program is a basic itinerary for the Machame route.
