Things to Know from Mount Ararat in Turkey – Trekking to the Mountain of Noah's Ark

Mount Ararat (5,137 m) is the highest mountain in Turkey and is located in the far east of the country. It is an inactive volcano with a summit permanently covered in snow.

Mount Ararat is recognized by Christianity, Judaism, and Islam as the resting place of Noah’s Ark after the Great Flood. It is also the setting for the legend of the “Ten Thousand Martyrs of Mount Ararat.” At its base, several Kurdish villages offer a glimpse into the traditional nomadic lifestyle of the local culture.

The ascent does not require advanced technical skills but does demand good physical fitness and proper acclimatization to avoid altitude sickness. It is considered an ideal mountain for beginners in high-altitude climbing.

The trek to the summit takes 6 days, plus 1 extra day in case of bad weather, along with days to reach the base and learn about the local culture. The total trip lasts 8 days and can be extended if you wish to visit Istanbul before or after. Several camps will be set up along the mountain to ensure a safe and comfortable ascent.

We work with a local mountain guide from the area who manages the hotel where the ascent begins. He speaks fluent Spanish and English and will be the perfect host to make this trip a truly unforgettable experience.

During the trip, we will spend 3 nights in a 3-star hotel at the foot of the mountain in Doğubayazıt, and the rest of the nights in tents at mountain camps equipped with a private cook. Mules will be used on the mountain to help carry the gear.
