Things to Know from Toubkal (4,167mts) Morocco

Jbel Toubkal, at 4,167 meters, is the highest mountain in North Africa and is located in Morocco’s Western Atlas. The ascent begins from the village of Imlil, less than 1.5 hours by car from Marrakech.

Its height doesn’t present major technical difficulties, but appropriate equipment should be considered depending on the season. During winter and much of spring, snow can be found from 2,000 meters upwards.

Mules will be used to carry luggage, allowing you to carry a light personal backpack during the ascent.

At the foot of the mountain, there are several Berber villages; our local guides will introduce you to these friendly people and their customs.

The standard program lasts 3 days, providing an extra day to climb Toubkal in case of bad weather or to climb two nearby 4,000-meter peaks, Ras and Timesguida.

Other options include a 2-day express program recommended only for those accustomed to rapid altitude ascents, due to a high risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

We also offer a 5-day program that lets you summit all nearby 4,000-meter peaks along with Toubkal in one trip, using the Toubkal refuge as the base for all climbs.

Remember that Moroccan law requires hiring a local certified guide, and there are checkpoints at the base of the mountain.
