Things to Know from Trekking in Ladakh: Indian Himalaya with Hindu Roots

This trek is designed for Himalaya enthusiasts seeking a remote and challenging journey, with a strong cultural and scenic focus. It is ideal for those with previous high-altitude trekking experience who wish to explore less-traveled regions.

The initial days in Leh offer a comfortable acclimatization process, including visits to iconic landmarks and gentle walks. From there, we transfer to Rumtse, the gateway to the vast Changthang Plateau. Early hikes in the Kyamar and Tso Kar area provide a gradual adaptation to altitudes approaching 5000m.

From Day 6 onwards, the linear trek begins, crossing mountain passes daily between 4900 and 5400 meters. Each day covers 10 to 14 km through spectacular landscapes, with views toward the Eastern Karakoram range. We pass through highland pastures where Changpa nomads graze their yaks and pashmina goats.

What makes this route special is its blend of wild nature, ancient culture, and high-mountain adventure. We’ll sleep in tents under pristine skies, surrounded by silence and remote mountain ranges.

The journey’s climax is the crossing of Yalung La (5400m), followed by a descent to Korzok Phu and the magnificent Tsomoriri Lake. From there, we return to Leh, completing a perfect circuit of adventure, altitude, and beauty.
